Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday 19 November 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. After more than a decade since GTA V, and a delay history that has tested even Rockstar's most loyal fans, the date is now eleven days away. Here is everything we actually know — and, just as importantly, what we do not.
The date, and how we got here
The road to 19 November has been long. GTA VI was first delayed from fall 2025 to 26 May 2026, an announcement Rockstar made on 2 May 2025. It was delayed a second time, to 19 November 2026, announced on 6 November 2025, with Rockstar saying the extra months were needed for polish. Pre-orders have been open since June 2026, and the launch trailer arrived on 15 October 2026. That is the whole official timeline. Anything else you have read about the date is either a rumour or a misunderstanding of one of those two announcements.
Pre-loading starts 10 November
Pre-loading opens on 10 November, nine days before launch — a sensible window for a game of this size, and the first practical date on every player's calendar. If you pre-ordered, that is the day to clear storage and start the download. Rockstar has not announced a day-one patch, and we will not guess at one.
What the business calendar says
Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, reports its second-quarter results on 9 November 2026 — ten days before launch. Expect the call to be dominated by GTA VI questions, and expect the answers to be careful: with the game this close, the company has every reason to let the launch speak for itself. The results will also be the last hard numbers before release week, so watch them less for what they say about the past quarter and more for what they imply about launch-week expectations.
The PC question
No PC version has been announced. A Q1 2027 PC release date was reported by GamesBeat on 13 October 2026, citing unnamed sources — that is a report, not a fact, and we are treating it as unconfirmed until Rockstar or Take-Two says otherwise. PC players should plan on waiting, and should be wary of any store listing or “confirmed” date that does not trace back to an official announcement.
The rumour we are not repeating
On 27 October 2026 a screenshot circulated on social media claiming a further delay to March 2027. It is not real: the claim appears nowhere on the Rockstar Newswire and nowhere on the console store pages. In our view, this is the shape of release-week misinformation — a plausible-looking image, timed to exploit the game's delay history. If a delay were real, it would be on Rockstar's own channels first. Check there, and nowhere else, before believing one.
What launch week will feel like
In our view, the first days will be dominated by two things: the sheer scale of the launch, and the spoiler problem. A game this anticipated generates a tidal wave of clips, streams and screenshots within hours, and anyone who wants to experience the story fresh should plan accordingly — mute the keywords, avoid the trending tabs, and play at your own pace. The pre-load window exists for a reason: use it, and you will be playing while everyone else is still downloading.
Why the delays matter — and why they do not
Two delays is a lot of history to carry into a launch, and it is fair to ask what they cost. But delays, in our view, are only a story until the game ships; after that, the only story is the game itself. Rockstar said the extra months were for polish. On 19 November, players get to judge whether that was true. Everything before that date is prologue.
The countdown checklist
Practical matters, for the organised: pre-orders have been open since June 2026, so if you have not ordered, do it before launch week rather than during it. Pre-loading opens 10 November — start the download that day, not on the 19th, when everyone else will be trying at once. And check your storage now. A game of this scale will want room, and the worst way to spend launch evening is deleting old games to make space for the new one.
Eleven days. Two delays behind us, one launch ahead. Whatever GTA VI turns out to be, the waiting — at last — has a date on it.
