The week of 9–15 November is the calm before the storm — and a busy week in its own right. GTA VI launches the following Thursday, but before that there is a full slate of releases, led by Pikmin 4 on Switch 2 and a pair of high-profile ports. Here is every release that matters, day by day.
Monday 9 November — Neo Junk City
The week opens with Neo Junk City, a new release to watch for players who like their cities strange and their stories stranger. It is the week's first new game rather than a port, and the one most likely to surprise people who go in cold.
Tuesday 10 November — Nocturnal 2 and Football Manager 27
Tuesday brings two very different games. Nocturnal 2 continues the atmospheric action series for players who want a moody evening, while Football Manager 27 arrives for the other kind of evening entirely — the one that ends at 3 a.m. with a spreadsheet and a promotion push. Tuesday is also the day GTA VI pre-loading opens, which makes it the most practical date of the week: clear your storage before Thursday week, not during it.
Thursday 12 November — Pikmin 4 leads a four-game day
Thursday is the week's biggest day, and it belongs to Nintendo. Pikmin 4 — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, including Dandori Academy, is the headline: a Switch 2 edition of one of the original Switch's best games, and the flagship release of the week. Alongside it, Metaphor: ReFantazio comes to Switch 2 — a port, but a significant one, bringing one of last year's most acclaimed RPGs to Nintendo's new hardware. Sonic Pico Park arrives the same day, a party game for the family shelf, and Moomin: Midsummer Madness rounds out the day with something gentler for younger players and the young at heart.
Ports vs new games
It is worth being honest about the balance: two of Thursday's four releases are ports, and the week's biggest name is a Switch 2 edition rather than a new game. That is not a criticism — the ports are good ones, and Metaphor on Switch 2 is a genuinely useful release. But it does mean the week is best read as a warm-up: strong games, smartly timed, clearing the decks for 19 November.
The week in one line
What we are playing
If you only buy one game this week, make it Pikmin 4 on Switch 2 — it is the week's most complete experience and the one most likely to still be in your rotation in December. If you want something new rather than something improved, Neo Junk City on Monday is the week's most interesting gamble. And if you are a Football Manager player, you already know what Tuesday means: clear the diary, warn the family, and accept that the next two weeks belong to the spreadsheet.
Looking ahead
Next week's column will be a very different one. GTA VI launches on 19 November, and everything else in gaming will be measured against it for a month. Enjoy the quiet week. It is the last one for a while.
The ports deserve respect
It is easy to dismiss a week of ports and editions, but Metaphor: ReFantazio on Switch 2 is the kind of release that matters more than it looks. A game that many players missed — or played on a console they no longer use — becomes available to an entirely new audience, on hardware they already own. The same is true of Pikmin 4's Switch 2 edition: for players who never owned the original Switch, this is not a re-release. It is a first release. The distinction matters, and it is why we list ports alongside new games rather than below them.
Play Pikmin 4 on Thursday, start your GTA VI pre-load on Tuesday, and keep the weekend free. Next week, everything changes.
